Colour drenching is going to be a huge trend for 2025. We love it and have been using it as a technique to give contemporary drama to spaces for years.
What is colour drenching? This is where you paint everything in the room the same colour. I mean everything – the walls, ceiling, skirting, cornice, architrave, window frames and doors. This can be used for both contemporary interiors and traditional projects, and they both work really well.
If done in a darker colour this look can be very cocooning and relaxing. We’ve recently used this technique in a teenager bedroom in a lovely nude pink colour, in a Georgian family room in Farrow & Ball, Treron, and in a very smart guest WC paired with a dramatic green Belgian marble.

Our most dramatic use of colour drenching must be where we used Farrow & Ball, India Yellow to colour drench a grade II listed Georgian drawing room, where we picked out the colour from the original Siena marble fireplace which we’d had restored. The restoration of the marble brought out all the beautiful colours in the stone and we found along with the rich yellow ochre it had deep plum veins. We used this plum colour to accent the room in the upholstery and bespoke rug design.

It’s such a versatile technique. The feel it creates can be very different dependant on the colour us use. It can look great in snugs and media room where you want a warm cosy environment to chill out in with a glass of wine.
